5 Ways to Ensure Your Home Makes a Great First Impression

Here are five simple ways to improve your home’s curb appeal when selling.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, especially when it comes to selling a home. This is why having excellent curb appeal is so important—a buyer will assign value to your property simply by looking at it, so you want to be sure your home is inviting, enticing, and won’t scare would-be buyers away. Here are some tips to boost your curb appeal and turn your listing into a sale:

1. Take engaging photos of your home: Many people begin their home search online nowadays, so good photos will attract more buyers and lead to more offers, higher prices, and faster closings. At Bell Properties, we provide professional photography services for each of our clients to showcase the strengths of their home.

2. Shape up your landscaping: Trim bushes and trees, blow away leaves and debris, add extra rock to thin spots, and spruce up the front door area with a fresh coat of paint. These are the first things that buyers see, so make sure everything is tidied up. In the backyard, you can trim trees, minimize patio furniture, and remove debris. If you have a pool, make sure it looks pristine.

3. Spruce up the interior: When a buyer walks inside your home, you want them to enter a space where they can see themselves living. They should see a clean, tastefully decorated home that appears wide-open, airy, and bright. You can do this by removing extra furniture, cleaning off countertops, and removing personal items. In this case, less is definitely more.

4. Declutter: In the kitchen, remove small appliances from countertops, take down fridge magnets, and hide dish towels and oven mitts. In the bathrooms, remove plungers and trash cans, clear off counters, shine the mirror, and polish surfaces. In bedrooms, make the bed, remove or organize shoes and clothing, and get rid of extra items on the floor. It’s also a good idea to remove any pet-related items before a showing. Think of what it’s like to walk into a beautiful hotel room—you want buyers to feel the same thing.

5. Let the light in: This helps create that open, airy feeling that you want buyers to experience. Clean the windows, remove sun screens, and open shutters and blinds to let in natural light. Turn all of the lights on in the house.
